Ken Nugent Fields a Relay For Life Team

For the past several years, the Ken Nugent team has participated in the American Cancer Society Relay For Life at the Gwinnett Fairgrounds. Our volunteers raise money to help find a cure for this dreaded disease. Emotions run high for our team members as we come together to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against the disease.

The Gwinnett Relay For Life is the largest in the world.  The Georgia event fielded more than 100 teams and had 1,000 more participants in 2010 than last year.  Ken Nugent's team alone raised more than $10,200 through online and cash donations, booth sales at the event, and other fundraisers.  Overall, the Gwinnett Relay For Life brought in $1.8 million and counting.

Celebrate—The Survivors Lap

The relay starts with a Survivors Lap, an inspirational time when survivors are invited to circle the track together and help everyone celebrate the victories we’ve achieved over cancer. The Survivors Lap is an emotional example of how relay participants are creating a world with more birthdays like those of each individual on the track.

Remember—The Luminaria Ceremony

After dark, we honor people who have been touched by cancer and remember loved ones lost to the disease. During the Luminaria Ceremony, each walker holds a glowing candle bearing the name of a person touched by cancer.  Participants often walk a lap in silence.

Fight Back—The Fight Back Ceremony

Finally, there is the Fight Back Ceremony, where we make a personal commitment to save lives by taking up the fight against cancer.
